Calling All Crofts!
The use of cosplay and cosplayers by the video game industry to promote their titles has long since graduated from trade show "Booth Babes" to a sizable line item on the Marketing budget's spreadsheet. Both CD Projekt Red's The Witcher III and Grasshopper Games' Lollipop Chainsaw held famous cosplay-related contests prior to launch, and now Microsoft has announced a similar stratagem.
The company's Xbox One will be the (temporarily) exclusive platform for Lara Croft: Rise of the Tomb Raider, and, to help drive that fact home into the collective geek sub-conscience, MS is holding a confab of as many Lara Croft cosplayers as it can squeeze into San Diego's Grand Hyatt the morning of July 11th. San Diego Comic Con will be in full swing at that time, of course, and pretty much every Lara Croft cosplayer in North America will already be in town anyway.
Putting a familiar face on the venture is cosplayer (and the game developer's Community Manager), Meagan Marie, who provides further details in the video below, and is depicted cosplaying Lara, above.
